Basic Training with Honda Ron Haslems Track Race School.

Mark Robinson having instruction 11th November 2003
On a cold wet morning on the 7th October 2003 Mark successfully completed his basic training at Donnington Park with Honda Ron Haslems Track Race School on a Honda CB500.

After initial briefing Mark was introduced to his personal instructor. The instructor ensured that Mark was fully aware of what was expected of him and to follow him around the race track to learn the racing line. Mark was signalled to pull off the racing line to allow faster bikes to pass. This included Ron and Leon Haslem who took to the track during the early session.

Several times Mark passed the grand stand where months before he had been a spectator watching the BSB. At the time Mark commented to his father that he would be riding on the track at some time. Little did his father realise that within that same year Mark would be true to his word.

After the initial session, Mark felt more confident and was allowed to step up the pace.

Mark Receives his Provisional Licence

6th November 2003
Even with the Postal dispute Mark receives his Provisional Licence for his birthday and makes arrangements to take his CBT.

Mark Passes his CBT first time.

11th November 2003
Mark spent all day at Academy Motorcycle Training and come away with his CBT Certificate on his first attempt. Now looking for insurance cover to enable him to ride his Motor Hispania MH Furia on the public roads.

Insurance arranged first solo ride on public roads.

12th November 2003
Insurance arranged through Bennetts with the NIG for TPF&T at £561. This included £25 legal cover with an excess of £300. His first un-supervised solo ride on public roads took place the same evening. This was also Marks first night time riding experience. I wonder if my father felt this apprehensive when I first went out on my bike all those years ago and just to think that in my provisional days you never needed to take any form of CBT.

Passed ACU compulsory Novice test.

16th Febuary 2004
Together with approximately twenty five other potential licence holders, Mark listened to a short lecture. After which he answered a multiple choice test paper. The test paper was not ment to catch anyone out but to ensure everyone understood everything that the lecturer had covered.

Mark was given a certificate that was attached to his ACU application form and together with payment for his registration it was handed over to the ACU staff. We were informed that due to a backlog in processing applications he could expect to receive his licence and a novice vest in about three weeks.

Licence/Membership card arrived.

Waited patiently for his ACU licence and orange vest, which arrived some two weeks later. 2004 Licence/Membership number 109595 status Road Race Rider Novice.
